What strikes me is that CNN is no longer playing the cover-up game for Israel.
It’s a game that US media have played for years.
So what has happened? Israel has always gotten away with murder, literally. The foreign lobby controlled the US government, all elected officials, and their job was to support Israel with lots of cash (even though, truth be told, the US taxpayer has been earning considerably less than the average Israeli and enjoys benefits we can only dream of). And further, they were to make Israel look good no matter what inhuman behavior they – and the illegal settlers, who could do no wrong – inflicted on the Palestinians.
The Israelis even shot up US spy ship USS Liberty, killing 34 and wounding 174 of its crew, and Israel-loyal president LBJ went so far as to forbid the surviving crew to talk to reporters about the horrors they had witnessed, under penalty of imprisonment.
I think that what has happened in the meantime is that it is almost impossible to find a journalist without a heart these days.
In the past, the press watched Israeli war crimes happen and they were able to keep a cover on the atrocities, for the most part. And when anyone dared to protest the atrocities committed by Israel, the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) terrorized the complainants with lawsuits and poison press, assassinating their reputations.
But now we are seeming images of babies, women and children being murdered with US-supplied bombs and bullets and starved to death, and the Western-indoctrinated journalists have been asked to go a bridge too far. They had been asked to promulgate the Israeli story that the IDF was “doing all it can to protect civilians,” even as they mercilessly slaughtered innocent men, women and children (so far over 100,000 have been killed or wounded). However, they know deep down that if they pretend to go along with this worst of all genocides and infanticides, their own reputation will not hold up. Their own spouses will hate them and they will hate themselves for lying so shamelessly.
Moreover, the magic of the Holocaust and the narrative of Jews as perennial Holocaust victims was wearing thin after over 8 decades had passed.
Besides, they could all see that the atrocities were being exposed on social media and no one believe the Israeli lies any more. The jig was up!
