Xi’s absence—especially in contrast to Modi’s historic visit—seems to signal a shift in Brazil’s balancing strategy. If India becomes a stronger pole in Lula’s foreign policy calculus, it could indeed dilute China’s influence in BRICS and potentially strengthen Brazil’s positioning with both the US and India.
