Here’s your daily air strike update for April 8, 2024
4 air strike reports follow, all translations.
Use the following map to locate the oblasts.
Before I jump into the updates, I need to report some shocking news. Ukraine reportedly sank another Russian ship today. A new commander had been named in hopes he would help keep the ships safer from sea drone attacks. So far, no luck.

Russian troops attacked the airfield of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the Dnepropetrovsk oblast
Underground worker Lebedev: Russian Armed Forces hit the Ukrainian Dolgintsevo airfield
Daria Rodionova
Russian troops hit the Dolgintsevo airfield, located in the Dnepropetrovsk oblast of Ukraine. TASS writes about this with reference to the coordinator of the Nikolaev underground, Sergei Lebedev.
According to him, one strike was recorded at night in the area of the city of Krivoy Rog. The projectile hit the territory of the airfield where aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are based.
“It crashed once. There is no alarm,” the agency’s source added.
On the night of April 8, the crews of Russian front-line Su-34 fighter-bombers attacked the command post and manpower of Ukrainian troops in the South Donetsk direction. As the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation said, the country's military personnel hit the specified targets using high-explosive aerial bombs [FABs] 500 kg caliber.
On April 7, the coordinator of the Nikolaev underground stated that the Russian Armed Forces destroyed several fuel storage facilities in the city of Kharkov. Moreover, warehouses and hangars east of the local airport came under attack. At the same time, Sergei Lebedev drew attention to the fact that Ukrainian air defense systems did not react to the attack.
Earlier, in the Odessa oblast of Ukraine, the underground cut off power to a Ukrainian military unit and a drone production workshop. [A lot of Odessans are loyal to Russia]

The Ministry of Defense announced an Iskander strike in response to attacks on oil refineries
Ministry of Defense: Iskander destroyed a warehouse of heavy UAVs in Zaporozhye
In March, Russian oil refineries were attacked by drones from Ukraine. The Ministry of Defense said that in response Russia is striking Ukrainian warehouses and workshops
Russian military personnel destroyed a warehouse of heavy drones and a workshop for their production in Zaporozhye with a strike from the Iskander [hypersonic] missile system, the Ministry of Defense reported.
“In response to the Kiev regime’s attempts to cause damage to Russian oil and gas industry facilities, [the military] are launching long-range precision weapons strikes at enterprises of the military-industrial complex,” the defense department clarified.
The Russian military also targeted workshops for the production of weapons and unmanned aerial vehicles and energy facilities that supply the military-industrial complex of Ukraine.
The Zaporozhye oblast became part of Russia in September 2022, but the city of Zaporozhye remained under the control of the Ukrainian authorities.

TARGETS OF STRIKES IN THE ODESSA REGION REVEALED: THE NIGHT “CALIBRATION” WAS NOT IN VAIN
A logistics and transport facility was damaged in the Odessa oblast, said Oleg Kiper, head of the oblast’s military administration. At night, the Russian Armed Forces carried out another “calibration”. However, our side has not yet announced the destruction of specific targets.
The head of the military administration of the Odessa oblast, Oleg Kiper, said that as a result of the hit, a certain logistics transport facility was damaged in the region. He left a message in the telegram channel. In addition, according to Kiper, a gas station was hit.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian publication Strana.ua wrote the day before that explosions were heard in the Chernomorsk area of the Odessa oblast. An air raid alert was declared in the region.
It is worth noting that at the insider level it was reported just this morning that the Ukrainian side managed to establish the operation of the ports:
Our source in the OP said that Ukraine was able to restore the operation of the ports, which made it possible to increase budget revenues and also reduce the load on the border with the EU, wrote, in particular, the million-dollar Resident channel. - During the operation of the sea corridor, starting from September last year, 1,300 ships transported more than 36 million tons of cargo from the ports of greater Odessa, mainly grain/metallurgy. Ukraine is constantly increasing the number of ships; currently there are more than 130 ships approaching the ports, which can export about 4 million tons of products.
Obviously, Russia is not happy with this. It is possible that the “calibration” was carried out in connection with the “restoration of port operation”.
What else is known about night strikes?
The answer was given by military blogger Yuri Podolyaka. His theses fit several points. Let's give them without cuts.
Firstly, energy facilities in the Kharkov and Krivoy Rog region are hit every day. It seems that the task here is to completely disconnect these energy centers from the unified energy system of Ukraine, which will reset not only the logistics of these two most important regions, but also the industrial potential (which is no less important). Plus, military targets are hit here, of which there are a lot.
Secondly, attacks are being carried out on Odessa as the center of the port infrastructure and the place from which BEC attacks are carried out in the Black Sea.
Thirdly, strikes are being made at the key points of the Ukrainian energy sector (but this is for the future).
Fourthly, our capabilities for reconnaissance of storage sites and routes of movement of Western military aid, which also regularly become targets of our attacks, have sharply increased.
And finally, fifthly, in a zone up to 100-120 km from the front line, KABs, Lancets and Iskanders are always ready to help the enemy reset. And this was also a consequence of the sharply increased capabilities of our intelligence.

The Russian Army launched an Iskander attack on the Ukrainian Armed Forces' heavy drone assembly shop
Ministry of Defense: the workshop for collecting heavy Ukrainian UAVs and their warehouse was hit
The Russian Army launched a strike with an Iskander operational-tactical missile system on the assembly shop of heavy drones of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). The Russian Ministry of Defense reported this on Telegram.
The blow was dealt to a production facility located in the city of Zaporozhye. As a result, not only the workshop itself for the production of heavy unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), but also the warehouse of finished products was destroyed, the military department noted.
The attack was carried out in response to attempts by Ukrainian troops to attack Russian oil and gas and energy facilities using long-range UAVs, the Ministry of Defense emphasized.
In early April, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked Tatarstan for the first time since the start of the special military operation. The published footage, filmed in the Alabuga special economic zone, shows an aircraft that looks like a light aircraft. In addition, Russia immediately drew attention to the increased range of the weapons used by Ukraine.

Applied en masse. Poland was horrified by Russia's attack on the Armed Forces of Ukraine
Interia: Russian bombs with UMPC have great development prospects
MOSCOW, April 8 – RIA Novosti. Russian glide bombs are distinguished not only by their mass production, but also by their great potential for constant modernization, writes Marcin Jablonski, a columnist for the Polish portal Interia.
“This is a relatively cheap and easy-to-manufacture solution, so the Russians can literally bombard Ukrainian positions with barrages of modernized FABs. At the same time, the design of the UMPC modules is promising - the Russians can constantly develop this project,” he noted.
Among the areas of modernization of gliding bombs, the journalist named improving aerodynamics, increasing flight range and adapting the UMPC module for use with ammunition carrying three thousand kilograms of explosive.
"
“UMPK modules <...> testify to the ability of the Russians to successfully adapt their weapons to the conditions of the conflict (in Ukraine - Ed.),” the Polish author emphasized.
The Russian Aerospace Forces actively use aerial bombs equipped with universal glide and correction modules (UMPC) in the northwestern military zone. Combat aircraft were able to strike at fortified areas of the Ukrainian Armed Forces without exposing themselves to fire from enemy anti-aircraft missile systems.
They considered it impossible. In the United States they said that Russia entered into battle in Ukraine
March 24, 23:31
Earlier, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the head of the department, Sergei Shoigu, checked the implementation of the state defense order at enterprises of the military-industrial complex in the Nizhny Novgorod region. There he was informed, among other things, that mass production of FAB-3000 bombs had been organized since February 2024.
As Russian military expert Alexey Leonkov told RIA Novosti, the three-ton aerial bomb has such destructive power that it can be used to storm especially fortified areas, in addition, new technologies will turn it into practically a high-precision weapon.
