The capture of Kurakhovo – a big turning point in the war
I normally don’t stray into battlefield reports (I leave that up to the experts, like Alexander Mercouris) but Kurakhovo is such an important location that I couldn’t help but include this
From here on out, Russia will have clear sailing for advancing westward. Kurakhovo was a vital logistics point. Without it, the Ukies will be hard put to supply and rotate their troops.

Russian Armed Forces take control of Kurakhovo
Units of the Southern [Yug] Group of Forces take control of Kurakhovo
MOSCOW, 6 Jan — RIA Novosti. Units of the Southern Group of Forces have taken control of the city of Kurakhovo in Donbass, the Defense Ministry reported.
"During active offensive actions, units of the Southern Group of Forces completely liberated the city of Kurakhovo — the largest settlement in the southwestern part of Donbass," the ministry noted.
During the liberation of Kurakhovo, servicemen of the 5th and 110th motorized rifle brigades particularly distinguished themselves, demonstrating courage and heroism.
The ministry explained that the city was an important logistics hub for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, so its liberation significantly complicated the rear and technical support of the Ukrainian group in the Donetsk direction, depriving the Kiev regime of the opportunity to shell peaceful neighborhoods of the DPR capital with artillery. [This genocidal shelling was in fact that provocation that the lying msn insisted was an “unprovoked invasion” by the Russians]
The ministry also recalled that over ten years, the Ukrainian military turned the city into a powerful fortified area with a developed network of long-term firing points and underground communications. In addition, from the north, Kurakhovo was covered by a reservoir, which significantly limited the maneuverability of Russian assault units.
"As a result of the professional actions of Russian troops during the liberation of Kurakhovo, the enemy lost 80% of its personnel (more than 12 thousand people), about three thousand units of various weapons and military equipment, including 40 tanks and other combat armored vehicles," the ministry added.
At the same time, over two months of hostilities near Kurakhovo, the daily losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces averaged from 150 to 180 servicemen killed and wounded. The ministry specified that the enemy had brought in nationalist [Neo-Nazi] and foreign mercenary units to defend the city, reinforcing them with artillery and tanks. Among them were units of the elite 79th Airborne Assault and 46th Airmobile Brigades, as well as the 5th Heavy, 33rd and 157th Mechanized Brigades.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the Ukrainian Armed Forces command concentrated 26 battalions with a total of over 15,000 servicemen to hold Kurakhovo.
"After taking Kurakhovo, Russian troops entered operational space. This will allow us to increase the pace of liberation of the territory of the Donetsk People's Republic," the Russian military department emphasized.
Kurakhove is a city in the western part of the DPR, located 46 kilometers from Donetsk and 30 kilometers south of Krasnoarmeysk (Pokrovsk). The city is of great operational importance. This is the largest settlement in the southwestern part of Donbass, which remained under the control of the Ukrainian Armed Forces for the longest time after the liberation of Ugledar.

Russian Armed Forces Attack UAV Assembly Shops in Kyiv Oblast
Russian Armed Forces Attack City of Belaya Tserkov in Kiev Oblast MOSCOW, 6 Jan — RIA Novosti. Russian military attacked UAV assembly shops in the city of Belaya Tserkov in Kiev Oblast, Nikolaev resistance coordinator Sergei Lebedev told RIA Novosti.
"At 1:45 a.m. there was a very beautiful strike in the city of Belaya Tserkov in Kiev Oblast. According to the resistance, it arrived in the Gayok area. As it turned out, UAVs were being brazenly assembled in several shops there. The shops are very large, as are the warehouses. And right next to Gayok there is a fully functional airfield," he said.
In addition, at 1 a.m., Russian military struck the city of Smela in Cherkasy Oblast. Explosions thundered in the direction of the radio equipment plant. Near it there is a large railway junction with many warehouses, where trains with military cargo regularly arrive.
At the same time, an explosion thundered in the city of Haisyn in the Vinnytsia oblast.
«
"According to preliminary data, the strike hit a helipad on the outskirts of the city, next to a cemetery. In recent days, local residents have observed the movement of Western-style helicopters," the coordinator noted.
In addition, at 1:20 a.m., the Russian military struck Kirovograd.
«
"According to reports from our comrades, it landed in the eastern suburbs, approximately at the Kanatovo military airfield. This is not surprising, recently the Banderites' [Neonazis’] aviation has become brazen and is launching to 20 planes at the same time, and firing Western long-range missiles at our territory," Lebedev added.
In response to attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on civilian objects, Russian troops regularly carry out targeted strikes on the locations of personnel, equipment and mercenaries, as well as on infrastructure: energy facilities, defense industry, military command and communications of the enemy.

Here’s evidence that the Syrians love Assad

At the airport in Jordan, I met a Syrian refugee...
By Jane Stillwater https://jpstillwater.blogspot.com/2025/01/at-airport-in-jordan-i-met-syrian.html
It was only three days into 2025 and I was just sitting there in front of Gate 24, all jet-lagged after two days in the air, going without sleep since forever and waiting not-so-patiently for stuff to happen like you always do in airports, when an Arab man, his wheelchair-bound mother and a mountain of luggage sat down beside me. "You look trustworthy," he said. I do? "Will you watch our luggage while I take my mother to the restroom?" Sure.
They took a very long time to come back and just as I was starting to worry that there might be a bomb in said luggage, they finally did come back. "Where are you from?" I asked the man.
"Syria." Oh boy. Wonder what he thinks of President Assad. Does he like him? Does he hate him? "We love Assad," the man declared. Cool. Here's me, doing on-the-spot reporting right here at Gate 24!
[Don’s note: Since Assad garnered about 90% of the vote last election, I assume the man meant we Syrians love Assad]
And when I finally got to my hotel in Amman, I listened to podcasts while trying unsuccessfully to get to sleep on jet-lag time -- and there was Scott Ritter, talking trash about Basher Assad. "The man is a coward," said Scott. "If he had been any kind of a president, he would have grabbed an AK-47 and died on the front lines."
No.
Good grief, Scott, do I ever beg to differ!
Scott mostly gets things right but he clearly got this one wrong. For over fourteen long bloody years, Assad and his rag-tag Syrian Arab Army were the only ones standing between heavily-armed American neo-con pirates who were trying to rape and pillage Syria just like they did with Libya. And it was Assad who swallowed his pride and begged the UN, the Russians, Hezbollah, anyone for help. No, Assad was (and is) a hero. The man simply got worn down.
And even you would get worn down too, Scott -- if billions of dollars of weapons were thrown at you and American neo-cons, Zionist colonialists, US-funded ISIS terrorists and Turkish hoodlums had been invading your back yard for over fourteen long bloody years. Don't ever give me no bull dookie that Assad was a coward.

Baerbock issues ultimatum to Syria
Baerbock linked German aid to Syria with respect for women's rights
MOSCOW, 6 Jan — RIA Novosti. German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock linked German support for Syria with how the country's new authorities will deal with women's rights, Die Welt writes.
"If women in Syria are not safe, then millions of well-educated men and women who are so needed will never return to their homeland from abroad to rebuild the country," journalists quote Baerbock as saying.
Also, according to the head of the German Foreign Ministry, during her visit to Syria she made it more than clear to the new government that the country will not receive financial support from the European Union if women's rights are suppressed.**
Geman FM Baerbock calls for more weapons for Ukraine, including air defenses. Does she know that NO air defense system anywhere can stop a hypersonic missile?

Stirring speech by Gemma Rowe
"Thank you to Israel, for its crimes have helped awaken the world from its slumber, and exposed the brutality of the West and its allies." British activist Gemma Rowe sheds light on the other side of the story, considering that Israel's actions have provided indisputable evidence of its colonial nature and its ongoing violations against the Palestinians with the help of the West.

Failing Gaza: Behind the Lens of Western Media
When political leaders speak of genocide, they repeat a timeworn mantra: “Never again.”
Over the past year, for the Palestinians of Gaza, “again” has become reality – mass casualties broadcast almost in real time by its victims.
This film is about an alternative version of that reality – the one told by major Western news organisations – and how it has provided cover for Israel’s war on Gaza.
Based on interviews with more than a dozen insiders, it lifts the curtain on the inner workings of agenda-setting outlets like CNN, the BBC and The New York Times.

Our thanks to AN for this
This is absolutely essential reading/watching. It demolishes the crass lies of the illegal and terrorist Israeli state and its supporters and exposes Netanyahu's slaughter of Palestinians as nothing but targeted genocide and ethnic cleansing, while the complicit Western media lie through their teeth. Where are the 'captured' or 'killed' Hamas fighters? I have never seen any; but to date there are more than 45,000 human beings including at least 17,000 children, babies (some unborn) [VERY STRANGE. SOME “PRO-LIFE” EVANGELICALS PLEAD WITH PEOPLE NOT TO ABORT BABIES, BUT YET,THEY ALSO PLEAD FOR PRAYERS FOR ISRAEL – THOUGH NEVER PRAYERS FOR PALESTINE. THEIR MESSAGE SEEMS TO BE: PLEASE DON’T ABORT PRECIOUS AMERICAN BABIES. IF YOU NEED TO KILL BABIES, MAKE SURE THEY’RE PALESTINIANS!!], women and others who have been deliberately targeted and massacred in cold blood by Netanyahu's IDF cowards and thugs, who destroy medical facilities, kill doctors, use starvation as a weapon, and record themselves laughing and mocking about their evil deeds. Even vermin would not be capable of such crimes against humanity The mass murderers who constitute Israel's band of warmongers must be arrested, put on trial, and suitably punished. Shame on so-called humaníty for doing nothing.

"What a country, a disgrace!": Adults are going head-to-head. Zoomers are ready to give up Russia
[Zoomer is a Gen Z person]
The last 20 years have objectively been the most prosperous in Russia. The economy grew stronger after the 90s, the level of freedom and glasnost grew, and against this background a new generation of Russian citizens grew up who believe that the state "imposed" war, patriotism, and any obligations enshrined in law on them. The gap between children and parents has grown and has become the subject of widespread discussion on the Internet. Adults are going head-to-head. Zoomers are ready to give up Russia: "What a country, a disgrace!"
A critical post entitled "I wish this country [Russian] would collapse soon" was published online at the end of the already difficult 2024, causing a public outcry, a lot of indignation, dividing people into two camps. The "main characters" of the publication were the so-called zoomers (Generation Z, born from 1996 to 2010). They are the ones who often post complaints about their living conditions, regardless of their personal or parental wealth. They talk about how they are "tired" of everything and even, writes Tsargrad columnist Olga Antonova, wish death to "such" a country:
Under the post - hand-to-hand combat. People, adults at that, are divided into two camps. Some write that youth have become spoiled, that we have free medical treatment, plenty of food and clothes. Others took the side of the youth and write that free medical treatment is a sham, and the clothes and food are cheap knock-offs.
The most frequent comments can be divided into three groups:
For such people, six months in the trenches is a healing therapy...
Good times breed weak people.
Our generation is tired of excessive care for children. They were not taught to fight, and that's the result. Our constant whining about fatigue brings up despondency and pessimism in children.
"No ambition"
Tsargrad columnist Antonova told about a case from life - the wife of a university professor really wanted her son to get a higher education, but he did not share such zeal.
By all criteria - a typical zoomer, since childhood in gadgets, the virtual world is more familiar to him than the real one. He does not need an education, he earns a little money on the Internet, it is enough for basic needs. In his own words, he is ready at any moment to work as a bagger in a grocery store - there is enough for food, and his mother will not leave him hungry:
He has absolutely no ambition! Examples of classmates, winners of Olympic games, active in creativity, do not affect him.
"What a country, a disgrace!"
As the special operation began, the family panicked - their son will not enter the university, they will take him into the army. He has problems with communication, almost all his friends are exclusively online. Mom was worried: he will foolishly sign a contract and go to the SMO.
The zoomer himself had a negative reaction to the special operation for one simple reason - due to sanctions, Russia was disconnected from the popular gaming platform. Coca-Cola factories were closed, and he did not like the alternative at all. At some point, he shouted uncontrollably:
What a country, a disgrace!
He knew nothing about the situation in Donbass since 2014, and did not want to know. He spoke on popular science topics, did not want to prepare for the Unified State Exam, so he took all the exams below average, and even failed some. Unlike his family, he was completely indifferent to this:
Putin's decision to retake the exam saved him: he managed to pull off a failure, and was accepted to the state budget. He studies reluctantly, and his father, a professor, took the teachers' phone numbers to find out whether his son was skipping classes or not.
"Putin, let me finish the second try!"
As Antonova notes, the last 20 years in Russia have truly been "fat years." Against this background, a generation has grown up who sincerely do not understand or do not want to understand what the Motherland is, why patriotism is so important, why anyone demands anything from them. You can't drum into them that their peers grew up in basements in Donbass, that they can determine the type of incoming artillery shell by the whistle. Crimea? Is that a vacation? The Thai island of Koh Lipe is.
Putin, let me finish the renovation of the apartment. I need Italian doors and tiles, where can I buy them now?
- sounds the average comment on the Internet.
They had a calm childhood, but in their teenage years they faced circumstances that happened in their lives for the first time: the annexation of Crimea, Covid, online learning, the Second World War, partial mobilization. Global events will make them even more passive and withdrawn. The predictions for the behavior of zoomers are disappointing. The inability to communicate in the real world with real people creates a layer of loners,
- writes the author of the channel "Tolkovatel".
Volunteer of the Russian Spring, war correspondent Vadim Egorov is worried that such an attitude can have very serious consequences:
Zoomers will definitely give up the country for a can of cola, just as we did in the 1990s for jeans and chewing gum.
